Unpredictable Revenge
Reflection
Writing a story was a complex process due to the need to apply so much imagination and creativity to create a text that could entertain people. The process started when I chose a societal issue that would be a support to the main problem in the story. Then I brainstormed about the characters and their characteristics, creating almost real-life people that I would be able to connect with. I also brainstormed the setting and a conflict that involved the societal issue that I had chosen before with a resolution to it. After all the brainstorm, I began writing the story using what I wrote in the brainstorm and adding adjectives, metaphors, similes, etc, to build up what my imagination was putting together. When I felt my story was ready, I proceeded to reading it all over again, revising to make sure there were no nonsense words, confusing sentences, or spelling errors. The next step was to look for two parters that could read my story and edit whatever they thought was wrong. They had to fill in a paper with a list in it, making sure that what needed to go in the story was present and leaving comments and doubts about the piece of work I had put my effort to. To have my final draft ready, I had to go over my story again, changing what my peers said was wrong and making sure that I liked how everything sounded like when reading it. It was a very wise process that let me create a well done story.
The second part about the process what the digital narrative I had to create to present my story to the class. This process started by outlining scenes from the story I had previously written by using a storyboard. Then, I chose iMovie as my app to do my editing process on. In iMovie I created a rough idea of the order of the scenes and added all the titles I knew I needed. Then, I started my content. I filmed the scenes that were going to be real-life videos, I took pictures of the backgrounds I was going to use, and then I went on to drawing some fictional aspects that couldn't be photographed by me. With the help of iMovie, I condensed all my segments into a whole video, adding some music and special effects on the action scenes. To finish up the video, I recorded the voiceover while I watched the video, making sure the narration followed what the character were doing. At last, I watched the video and changed whatever seemed off of the scheme of the story and I was able to create a digital way to express the story. I uploaded it to my blog and I was done.
Between the digital and the traditional story there were various similarities and differences. One of the basic similarities is that in both I narrated the same story, but first I had to write the traditional story before I started the digital one. In both stories, I outlined the events first and then started the real stuff. Another similarity was that in both stories I went back to check my work before publishing it, and with the help of two peers, I edited what they thought was wrong. One difference was that in the digital story I had to find the visuals to express what words were telling us and at the same time, adding to it how did we imagine the events happening; in the traditional story, words gave us clues about the environment that appeared in the story, letting the reader imagine it his/her own way, making sure their imagination included aspects from the story. Both processes were different but they both had some steps in common that let us create two good stories.
There were also difficulties and pleasures in writing both stories. The difficulties of writing a traditional narrative choosing a theme to write about due to the explosion of ideas I had in my mind that didn't let me focus on specific areas to write about. The pleasures of writing a traditional narrative were that I could use any words I wanted, to express what I had in mind and no one could tell me that I was wrong about what I was saying because it was my imagination working and the story was fictional. Putting the work all together was one of the difficulties of making a digital narrative and most of all, when I had to have a perfect timing for the special effects and the voiceover so it matched the images shown. The pleasures were that I could choose any images, songs, videos, and special effects to add on to my story. Even if there were difficulties, I managed to make two good narrations to show to the class.

Amy!!
Amy is my pet. She has gone through a lot of chaos in her life which has lead her to be noble and nice. I have been her mother since she was born. This is a poem I wrote about her and the main reason of why I love her so much.
On April twenty-third, two thousand ten,
A lovely puppy named Amy was born, She weighed one hundred fifty grams by then; Later her mom died, leaving her forlorn. Five years later, Amy has grown up, She loves to jump, catch ball, and run around, But not as much as when she was a pup, Barking and eating fake bones from the ground. Amy has never liked dog food before, And kids make her so hyperactive that My parents can't handle her anymore; They say she is as agressive as a cat. Amy is the best dog in the world and her hair will never be long or curled. |

Interviewing my Past..
MARIA JOSÉ: Hi, today I am going to ask some questions about my family's history to my fabulous grandfather, Enrique or Cuncho. Hello, Cuncho how are you today?
ENRIQUE (CUNCHO): Hello, I am great, thank you for choosing me to be interviewed.
MARIA JOSÉ: No, thank you for making up some time for me to interview you. The first question I have for you is When and Where were you born?
CUNCHO: I was born on August 28 of the year 1933 in Manizales.
MARIA JOSÉ: Where did you go to school?
CUNCHO:
MARIA JOSÉ: Where did you go to college?
CUNCHO: I went to Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Georgia.
MARIA JOSÉ: What did you study?
CUNCHO: I am a retired Civil Engineer.
MARIA JOSÉ: Why did you retire?
CUNCHO: I retired because I found a better life working in a company called Cauchosol created by me.
MARIA JOSÉ: That's Great! I was wondering, why aren't you the head of the company still?
CUNCHO: I was simply kicked out of the company by my partners.
MARIA JOSÉ: Oh!, what a sad thing! Moving on, my next question is How was your life in Georgia?
CUNCHO: I lived with two old people which mostly "adopted" me while I was in college but I payed rent to sleep in a small room upstairs. I went to college every day. I was a great fan of Georgia Tech's football team.
MARIA JOSÉ: Have you met any famous person?
CUNCHO: Yes, I met Albert Einstein in a college field trip.
MARIA JOSÉ: Really! I don't believe you! How was it!?
CUNCHO: It was nothing.
MARIA JOSÉ: Nothing!? Meeting Albert Einstein is a crazy story. Tell me every single detail about it.
CUNCHO: I just saw him in a conference he was doing in Washington D.C, I came by and shaked his hand. It wasn't a big deal, though.
MARIA JOSÉ: Okay, now I am mad, let's just move on... My next question is: How did you make my grandma, Ana, fall in love with you?
CUNCHO: Well that's a loooong story. It all started out from the day I went to her house with Mariachis. I was standing on the border of the tank where they kept some beautiful lotuses. She was in her bedroom. She opened the window, and when I saw her, my body went completely cold and I suddenly fell into the tank. Later on, I found myself with her dad´s clothes and in her house. It was an awful but lovely day.
MARIA JOSÉ: What a funny moment! Dis her parents like you at all after that?
CUNCHO: They never really, loved me or appreciate me so I just went on with my plan on how to get Ana to love me and her parents too.
MARIA JOSÉ: Well, it was fun getting to know some fun and fabulous stuff about my past. Thank you for your time and I hope to find more amazing things from my past.

Reflection...
I still can't believe that my grandpa met Albert Einstein and less, that he says it isn't a big deal. I would love to know more about my older family, not only about my grand parents but my great grandparents too. It's sad that they aren't here to tell me about their lives and how was it to live in war times. I want to know how this all of the world catastrophes affected them and how was it like to live in the past. It would also be interesting to know how did women go through sexism affecting all the time and how were all of those gay people treated. I would've loved to meet my great grandparent Jorge Arango because my aunts told me he was a very mad and tough man. I loved this project because I found out marvelous stuff about my family that only a few members of it knew. Unfortunately, I only have one grandpa to tell me stories and the rest are gone. If there could be a possibility to bring them back to life now, I would do it because there's so much more I would like to know about my ancestors.
Kids and their iPhones...
Cellphones are one of the world’s greatest inventions, if not the best. They help people all around the world to communicate, browse, and learn a whole lot of stuff. We use our phones every single day and yet, we aren’t conscious about all of the dangers they include. Social Networks, games and web pages are some of the thousands of dangers that these devices contain. I am an eighth grader, and I still don’t get how can parents give smaller children cellphones, when they still aren’t capable of understanding all of the dangers one device like this one can have.
First of all, one of the most common danger is bullying. Bullying can happen through every social network you can find, even games that have a social media inside them. Apps like Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Twitter, etc., are open to everyone in this planet. Older kids can take advantage of this situation and use this social networks to harm a child emotionally. Small kids can be affected by this and most of the time, their parents aren’t conscious about their child’s problems. These kids aren’t brave enough to tell their parents or they just think that will make them look weak. This is one of the most harmful dangers a device like a cellphone can have.
Aside of bullying, false identities are flowing through these networks easily. Adults that want to take advantage of kids tend to do this. They hide their age and personality and become a younger and nicer person to talk to children into meeting with them. False identities are looking for sexual abuse to these children and they try their best to convince kids into it. The danger in here is when children accept and meet with these people. At last, kids get surprised by the news that the “kid” that had been talking to them is an adult. Later on they find themselves hurt and they have been sexually abused by their online “friend”. This is a case that I personally think no one would ever have to deal with.
The world has beautiful and enjoyable places that are being vanished by the electronic world. Kids are supposed to be the ones in the world playing out in the fields, in the park, and in the attractions that have been well built all over the world specially to feature them as their riders. Around the world, there are more than 1 million rollercoasters, other millions of parks, and a great amount of fields that can be all resumed into a kid having one cellphone that will stop them immediately of enjoying the environment as it naturally should be. Everywhere you go, you see many types of people with cellphones and smartphones. More than the half of the world’s population don’t care about the natural resources surrounding them unless they see them in a famous movie, an app, or in a celebrity picture. Natural spaces aren’t being appreciated because of a cellphone in a person’s hand. This natural way of living and interacting with nature has been reduced completely and it might get to an end were everyone will be looking at a screen and forgetting about the world outside of a device.
Life can be completely changed by a cellphone. You become connected to the online world, you interact with people from anywhere around the world, and you can even become famous for your posts. There is another side to this happy and social life. The dangers listed before are some of the most common dangers lived by a whole lot of the world’s population. It is incredible how parent allow kids be in such a dangerous stage by letting small children access the world of technology so early.
